Born July 14, 1927 in Manning, South Carolina as Margaret Cecile,
Peggy Parish is best known as the author of the popular Amelia Bedelia series for children . She graduated from
the University of South Carolina in 1948 with a Bachelors of Arts in English.
Parish taught English and creative dancing. She wrote more than fifty
children's books, her works including fiction and non-fiction. She died
suddenly on November 19, 1988 of a ruptured abdominal aneurysm; her
Amelia Bedelia series was continued by her nephew
Collection Scope and Content Note
The collection contains materials for four titles published between
1963 and 1971. Included in the collection are corrected typescript and galley
A number of titles written by Peggy Parish were illustrated by Fritz
