Biographical Sketch

Susan Pearson was born December 21, 1946, in Boston, MA. She graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, in 1968 and later worked as a VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) volunteer. Later she worked at several publishing companies. In 1975, Susan Pearson published her first book for children, Izzie , the story of Cary and her cat-doll, Izzie. The book was named one of New York Times Outstanding Books of the Year. Another one of her books, Saturday I Ran Away (1981) was selected as one of the International Reading Association's Children's Choices in 1982. Her 1987 book Happy Birthday, Grampie , the story of how Martha makes a special birthday card for her grandfather, was lauded by critics as a "lovely, realistic evocation of the American family at its best." She has also written a series of books featuring "child detective" Ernestine Jones, nicknamed Eagle-Eye Ernie, who lives in Minnesota.
