Biographical Sketch

Jim Latimer was born October 4, 1943, in Detroit MI. He attended Merrill-Palmer Institute (Detroit) 1967-68, then earned his B.A. at Wayne State University in 1968. Bank Street College awarded M.S. in 1979 and Ohio Univeristy, PhD., in 1979. He began his career as a teacher in New York City in1969, later becoming an instructor in child development at Ohio University, Athens OH 1974-1975, continuing at St. John's University, St. Joseph MN 1978-82. He has also served as an instructor in story-telling and children's literature at the University of Minnesota 1983-1984 and the University on Wisconsin Marshfield 1984-1985.

Jim Latimer has written children's books noted for their gentle humor and outlandish vocabularies. Critics compared the setting and tone of Latimer's first book, Going the Moose Way Home to those in Garrison Keillor's works for adults.
