Biographical Sketch

Eloise Greenfield was born May 17, 1929, in Parmele, NC. She became an author and poet, and has received numerous honors and awards for her work. An African American, her work affirms the positive attributes of the black experience. Characteristically, she provides young readers with strong role models, both historical and contemporary. She has been praised for her understanding of the thoughts and emotions of the young, as well as for her lyrical prose style.
