Arnold A. Griese (rhymes with 'rice') was born April 13, 1921, in
Lakota, Iowa, where he spent his first 17 years on the family farm. At the age
of 17 he began to travel, finally settling in Alaska, where he taught school,
and eventually became a professor at the U. of Alaska.
