Ramon Royal Ross was born the first of November, 1930, in Walla
Walla, Washington. Growing up, Ross' family would journey into town for the
children's weekly piano lessons and to select the next week's reading list. He
matured in the books, majored in English at Central Washington University and
would later go on to be a professor of education at San Diego State University.
In 1968, his first book, Young American Basic Reading
Program: Levels 1-10 , was published. He is best associated with
Prune , a story of a prune's adventure and
love-tale with a raspberry. He was awarded the 'Notable Work of Fiction' from
the Southern California Council of Literature for Children and Young People in
