Biographical Sketch

Born March 15, 1894, in Summerville, SC; died March 31, 1980 in Chestnut Hill, PA. Attended Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, 1914-15, 1919-22, and studied art in Europe, 1921. His career in illustration began with drawings for periodicals. He was the illustrator for more than 200 books, mostly for young people.His works hang in a number of public buildings and is represented in numerous private collections. He received a Gold Medal from the Charleston Exposition, 1907. His work appeared in magazines including Ladies' Home Journal, Country Life, Redbook, and Maclean's .
