Biography of Richard Wilbur
Richard Wilbur was born on March 1, 1921, in New York, NY. Wilbur
graduated from Amhurst college, got married and then served in the U.S. armed
forces during World War II. Upon returning to the United States, he enrolled in
Harvard's gradutate school program and published his first book of poetry.
Wilbur is one of the most acclaimed English-language poets of the twentieth
century. He has won two Pulitzer Prizes, for Things of
This World in 1957 and New and Collected
Poems in 1988.
