Biographical Sketch

Yoko Mitsuhashi was born in 1936 in Tokyo, Japan, where she studied art and design at the Women's College of Fine Arts, graduating in 1959. In 1962 she moved to New York and found work as a freelance children's book illustrator and graphic designer, working for companies including Scholastic, New York Magazine, McCall's, Good Housekeeping, and Doubleday. Her last major exhibit, New Yoko , took place in 1990 at the Ayoama Design Space in Toko. She passed away in 1993.

This collection consists of original art, including drawings on paper and paintings on paper and canvas, some of which are related to children's books. Works that are unidentified as being with a particular publication are listed under the Miscellaneous series, which also includes various ephemera designed by Mitsuhashi. The Periodicals series includes full issues of periodicals that feature Yoko Mitsuhashi's art; some of these periodicals are in Japanese.
