Biographical Sketch

Lois Duncan was born in 1934 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She began writing early in life, and published her first story in 1947, in the magazine Calling All Girls . She has become well known for her novels of suspense and the supernatural for young adults. In most of her books her protagonists are high school students, usually girls, who are suddenly confronted with a sinister threat of some kind. Many of her stories are set in New Mexico--Duncan was a journalism instructor at the U. of New Mexico, 1971-82. When her own 18-year-old daughter was murdered, Duncan was able to turn the experience into a non-fiction book, Who Killed My Daughter? published in 1992.
