Biographical Sketch

Georgess McHargue was born in 1941 in Norwalk, Conn. She worked at various staff positions in publishing houses before beginning her free lance writing career in 1970. As a child she was an avid reader, and as a adult realizes that there were many gaps in children's literature--stories dealing with real people and their problems, such as anger, jealousy, and divorce, for example. In her own writing she tries to fill these gaps. She also writes to introduce young readers to topics such as vampires, werewolves, and witches, describing them and giving their historical background, etc., rather than presenting them as monsters. She has received several honors for her work.
