Historical Note

The survey was compiled by Mary Jane Houser, a market research employee in Honeywell's Aerospace Division. The report, numbered 1070-1943, was developed to satisfy requests within the division for information on competitive computer systems for a variety of applications. It was primarily directed at the division's computer systems marketing and regional sales personnel.

Collection Scope and Content Note

The survey is a loose-leaf report originally bound as a ten-volume set describing small digital computer systems, most of which relate to military and aerospace applications. It was produced in 1970 and revised the following year. The survey contains information on computer systems of the 1960s and early 1970s, and reflects the systems of over 100 manufacturers. Each section includes an index of the computers that are described, a narrative summary of each computer, and a computer characteristics form. The latter lists standards elements for each machine: type, physical characteristics, arithmetic performance, memory, input/output, circuitry construction, reliability, and other notes. Other supporting documents and graphics are featured for many machines. The report was compiled from other secondary sources, and claims to exclude any classified or company proprietary information.
