Biographical Note

Lyle Thompson worked for Burroughs Corporation in the engineering department at Paoli, PA. While employed at Burroughs, he worked on various project including the stroboscopic accumulator, which was done in conjunction with the Engineering Research Institute at the University of Michigan.


Collection Scope and Content Note

This collection contains reports and papers authored or co-authored by Thompson, with the bulk of the reports on the ferromagnetic core, used in the ENIAC memory, and on the stroboscopic accumulator. Of note is a congratulatory letter from Alden Taber of the Ballistic Research Laboratories regarding the ENIAC memory.

Also included in the collection are photographs, including those of the ENIAC memory, speeches, and correspondence relating to early Burroughs research and development activities in the Philadelphia area in which Thompson was involved. The collection also contains a few files on computer-related topics.
