Biographical Note
Richard W. Clarke worked at Remington Rand Univac, and later for the
Control Data Corporation. In 1957, during his tenure with Remington Rand
Univac, Clarke, along with Sherman A. Sundin, invented the Flying Wedge Loading
and Mounting Apparatus. Their invention was awarded a patent by Univac in 1965.
Collection Scope and Content Note
The collection contains information on magnetic drum storage,
including photographs and background information on the Flying Head Drum,
patented by Richard W. Clarke in 1965. The photographs were removed from a
three ring binder and retained in original order. Photograph captions were
taken verbatim from notes attached to the original pages in the binder.
