The All-University Council for Liberal Education was established as a
standing committee of the University Senate in 1963. It served to set
University-wide liberal education requirements for all bachelor's degrees. In
1982, the council was eliminated, with its responsibilities being assigned to
the Senate Committee on Educational Policy. The council was reestablished in
