Abstract:
Eleanor Estes papers focus on her work as an author and illustrator of children's and young adult fiction, and trace the genesis, process, and revision of thirteen of her works. The collection contains manuscript and illustrative material, including typescripts, notes, galley and page proofs, illustrations, a dummy, book jackets, as well as scrapbooks for five titles containing reviews, articles, and correspondence. There is also correspondence and art from children sent to Ms. Estes about her books, a copy of her acceptance speech for the 1952 Newbery Medal, an article written for Horn Book Magazine , and typescripts for some stories not verified as published.
